The surgery is very well appointed with four consulting rooms and the practice nurse now has two rooms, one of which is mainly used for minor procedures. The Physiotherapist and Chiropodist who visit on a regular basis, have their own room which they share. The surgery is also the base for the local District Nurse team, Midwife, Health Visitor and CPN. who have their own office space and clinical rooms.compu.gif

There are computers in all the consulting rooms, reception, dispensary and community nurse rooms, most of them networked to the clinical system server, so that everyone in the team can access the clinical system. Networking of  the community staff machines has unfortunately not been fully implemented yet, which is a bit of a retrograde step compared with "System 5" days, but we're working on it.

We use iSoft Synergy. All consultations and dispensing are computerized and there is Internet access throughout. We also have an electronic stock control and ordering system.

SERVICES:
We offer a full range of medical services including minor surgery, antenatal care and child health surveillance. We give family planning advice and supply contraceptive pills, injections, coils, caps and condoms. We also do a fair bit of casualty work, as the A&E Department is 14 miles away at the
Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall.
